FINISHED!!!

Thanks everyone for your support to team up against poverty!

What an experience! We had a wonderful time on our walk, and nearly a week after the event, we start to feel normal again ;-) and we would do it again!

Thanks for more than AUD 3.000 that were donated to our team  to help and overcome poverty! It is amazing to walk for a cause. For me this was not the last challenge :-)  Who knows, maybe Walkability will start it's own fundraising walks in Austria?!

A little more about Oxfam Trailwalker:

Oxfam Trailwalker is fast becoming a global phenomenon. In 2014 Oxfam Trailwalker will take place inIndia, New Zealand, Spain, Japan, France, UK, Belgium, Ireland and Hong Kong

Globally, the events have raised more than $140 million for Oxfam’s valuable work in Australia and around the world, with more than 200,000 people taking part and becoming great ambassadors for Oxfam's work.

Do you want to sign up for your personal challenge next time?!

OXFAM TRAILWALKER COMING UP

14/8/2013

On Saturday was the last official Training Walk for the Oxfam Trailwalker Challenge. As usual provided and perfectly organised by Tara and Ian from Sydney Coast Walks.
Since I don't get much time on my own these days to do some proper training, I made sure to get babysitters so I could do at least the night session. I joined Ian and the other keen walkers at Davidson Park, later in the afternoon. They've all walked over 20 kilometers at that time, so I thought it would be good to bring some fresh spirit to the tired walkers...

But god, these people are all fit, it actually was quite hard to keep up with them... I think they are all training for something big, like a 100k challenge...

Anyway, about half way through our night walk Ian waited for the group right in front of the Austrian Club of Sydney... really, at the actual Oxfam I might just have to have a Schnaps, or some Stiegl beer there instead of painkillers... it will be at the 85 kilometer mark, so I guess there's nothing wrong with getting some fresh "spirit" for the last few k's...

It was a nice walk, and there will be a complete "Sydney Coast Walks too" - Team training walk coming up soon. In fact, on the 10th of August, the day before City to Surf...

Thanks for all the donations so far, we are just short of 2000, maybe some of you wanted to contribute to hit it! Just go on our OXFAM blogspot if you feel like donating :-)
Thanks.

I AM WALKING 100 k's - OXFAM TRAILWALKER SYDNEY

Help! Believe it or not I have somehow committed myself to:

A) Hiking 100km non-stop through the rugged bush (that’s 30-48 hours hiking without sleep)!
B) Raising at least $1000 for Oxfam!

Commitment A means every week I am hiking from early morning all day and sometimes nights through the bush as a team training event – if the training doesn’t kill me then the event will probably finish me off.

Commitment B is the reason I’m sending you this email.

I need to find 100 friends to donate at least $10 each.  OK, so I probably don’t have 100 friends ( ... I’m hoping 1 or 2 of you are very generous types). But I do often think about emailing/calling/visiting you, being nice to your husband/wife/mother/dog/cat and sending you birthday cards! And it’s the thought that counts, right?

Convinced? Great! Simply click on the link below and donate  as much as you like (even 10 Dollars or 5 Euros are a great contribution already, but of course feel free to donate 100 – don’t forget, it’s tax deductible!)

Not convinced? OK, to unsubscribe to my regular updates, simply donate $50 by clicking on the link below… :)

Putting my shameless begging aside, Oxfam Australia is a really great charity (the money gets to the people who need it) and they are helping people living in poverty around the world, including indigenous Australia. So you can feel really great about donating your $50 to help us out.

Here’s the link to my team’s web page with a bit of news about our efforts so far. Just click on the “DONATE” link if you can help us out:

Thanks for your generous support!

I am a walker. In 2003 an 800 kilometer journey on foot made me realize how far I can get with "simply walking".
In 2013 I finished a 100 kilometers trailwalker challenge within 35 hours. It was for a good cause. It made me realize  in another way, how far we can get with the simple act of walking.
