Have you ever done a walking tour at night?

As you might be aware I did a crazy thing a few weeks ago. I signed up to team up against poverty. Amongst 3 other team members I am training to walk 100 kilometres within 48 hours in late August here in Sydney...

Did you ever take an extended walk in the dark? No?
Well, - 12 k's in the dark certainly are an amazing experience.

Just get the 5.30pm ferry from Circular Quay to Manly on a Friday night, meet your Tour Guide Ian from Sydney Coast Walks, who are the official providers of "Oxfam Trailwalker" training in Sydney, a bunch of likeminded people and off you gomy first OXFAM Night Training

It was an amazing night, opposed to the forecast it hardly rained and we nearly had full moon all along our way around North Head. We got to hear interesting stories from Sydneys early days, the Q Station and last but not least walking on a trail with a few shy animals but nothing else.

It definitely did take away the initial mixed feelings about walking in the dark, and there will be another official training walk provided on the actual Trailwalker track in early July. Our Team can't wait.

When you love walking, like I do, you might prefer to start every walk at your doorstep. It is so much nicer when you can start a nice walk without having to use a car or other transport.

One of my favorite walks is a loop around home. Checking out the little allyways of Charing Cross Village, passing shops and cafes, walking through queens park and the back streets to reach busy Bondi Junction, followed by a stroll through Waverley Park back to Charro and home.

It is a 7 kilometer love story to explain "Why I love where I live". The simple answer is the amazing walkability of the area. Within a 20 min walking distance I can choose if I want to hang out at most beautiful Bronte Beach, Centennial Parklands, Waverley Oval or the busy Westfield Shopping mall in Bondi Junction.

I am a walker. In 2003 an 800 kilometer journey on foot made me realize how far I can get with "simply walking".
In 2013 I finished a 100 kilometers trailwalker challenge within 35 hours. It was for a good cause. It made me realize  in another way, how far we can get with the simple act of walking.
